Follow up to the popular companion volume on Plymouth Before the War, the focus here is on the Post Blitz reconstruction of Plymouth City Centre and the emergence of the new estates like Ernesettle, Ham, Whitleigh, Honicknowle and Efford. Featuring the same Then & Now format, it also takes in Stonehouse, Devonport, Ford, Barne Barton, St Budeaux, King’s Tamerton, Peverell, Mannamead, Mutley, Laira, Oreston, Hooe and Cattedown.
Along the way we see many landmark buildings that survived the Blitz but not the 1943 Plan for Plymouth, including the original Drake Circus, the Corn Exchange, Prudential Building and Odeon. We also set hundreds of prefabs that were dotted around the city. A truly amazing collection of aerial images!
